Incumbent Labor Party President, Jenny McAllister, has over the weekend flagged support for marriage equality as “a very significant issue” for the future of the ALP, while Queensland’s Acting Labor Premier Andrew Fraser has suggested that he will introduce a private members bill to allow for civil unions.
McAllister – who is currently in the middle of a campaign to retain the ALP’s presidency – has said that the issue of same-sex marriage has particularly resonated with younger members of the party.
“My view will be that this is important to branch members, but it is particularly important to our younger members.
