Evelyn Gray

evelyn-thumbMy husband and I have been married for over 37 years. We have two adult daughters – one gay and one straight. Both are in long-term relationships with their partners, but only one is able to marry in Australia.

Marriage enables a couple to publicly declare their love and commitment to each other. It also signals to young gay people that they are worthy of equal treatment in the eyes of the law, and not second class citizens!

As a heterosexual parent of two adult daughters, one straight and married, and the other gay and in a long-term relationship with her female partner, I am devastated at the inequality enshrined in the Marriage Act that impacts on my gay daughter.
